Can't delete Exchange 2010 mailboxes after uninstall?
Since I couldn't get it working in production, I uninstalled Exchange 2010, reloaded the OS (server 2008 Enterprise), then installed Exchange 2007. When I open the mailbox list in Recipient Configuration, I see all the "AD-generated" mailboxes. When I try to modify one, it tells me they were created with a newer version (I'm assuming 2010) and that I have to use console 14.0.100.0 or later to modify. Anyone know of a way to remove these so I can create new mailboxes in 2007?

Install and use the Exchange 2010 Management Tools. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . You can also go to ADSIEDIT and Delete the Database under Exchange Administrative Group -> Database. This Database would be for Exchange 2010. This should work.Ashwin Raj

Not a good option, given all the bad things that does to 2007, ya know?

I'm pretty sure 2010 Mgmt Tools would "hose" my 2007 install, based on things I've seen in this forum. Furthermore, that install is so crappy I really don't want to end up stuck with flattening my server (for the 7th time) after it fails for some stupid reason. Had m'soft engineers logged in via LM do that to me often enough already

Well were you able to Find the Exchange Administrative Group & then the Database under that. Ashwin Raj

No, doesn't exist, since this is now a 2007 installation. That's why I can't figure out where the EMC is getting the mailbox info from. As far as I can tell, all vestiges of 2010 have been removed, including the db you refer to above; not even the folder mentioned exists.

Can't do that - Exchange 2010 installer recognizes there's a previous install on the machine and won't run

Ok, have you tried to install the Exchange Management Tool on a 64 bit Client Machine and then try to Remove the Mailboxes. Management Tools - For Exchange Server 2010, you have several options for managing your messaging infrastructure, 1) you can have a 64-bit application terminal server that has the management tools installed, 2) you can manage the Exchange 2010 server directly via terminal services, 3) you can deploy 64-bit Windows Vista SP1, Windows Server 2008 SP2 / R2, and Windows 7 workstations, once released, for your administrators, 4) you can leverage the remote PowerShell capabilities that are built into Exchange Server 2010 by using either the 32-bit version or 64-bit version of PowerShell 2.0 (in other words, when leveraging remote PowerShell, the system where you launch PowerShell doesn't require the management tools to be installed as all cmdlets are executing on the server you are remoting). http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/05/19/451366.aspx Ashwin Raj

Not if you install them on a different machine. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." .
