Can't access Shared Mailbox over POP3 on 2007 SP3
I get the "-ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." no matter what I've tried. POP3 works for other mailboxes, so I know it's not a POP3 issue, but this is my only Shared Mailbox I'm trying this with. I have entered username as: mydomain/myusername/alias From a telnet session: user x/homer/sharedmb323 pass MyPass123 -ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. I've tried the slashes both ways. Thoughts?

Hello AR5, Is your shared mailbox account enabled in AD or not? If the account is disabled and you need to access the shared mailbox in Exchange 2007 SP3, you can give yourself full access permission on that shared mailbox, then go to access shared mailbox via MAPI or OWA. It's a Shared Mailbox, so the official/primary account is disabled. My user does have full access / send permission to the mailbox (and this works through OWA). This article seems to imply that this is a legitimate solution, but doesn't mention Shared Mailboxes. Can you confirm that this POP3 access is not supported for Shared Mailboxes on Exchange 2007 SP3?

Hello, I checked in my lab (Exchange 2007 SP3), you can use DomainName\username\alias to login the shared mailbox. This is my steps to test on Exchange 2007 SP3 <1> In POP3 authentication tab, choose "plan test logon (Basic authentication)" <2> Restart Microsoft Exchange POP3 service and Exchange Transport service <3> Give one user(bb) full access permission on the shared mailbox. <4> Follow these to telnet, this is the screenshot for the result: Thanks, Evan Liu TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Evan Liu TechNet Community Support

Sorry, 4th of July holiday here. I had our authentication set as you said, but restarted the service anyway, and still no different. I found that my mailbox must also be enabled for POP3 in order to login to the shared one, then I'm able to connect up to the shared mailbox.
