Can't Edit Tracked Changes

I'm totally stumped on a tracked changes issue -

My user uses tracked changes regularly, and he's found that since upgrading to Office 2013 (from 2003, I believe) he is unable to delete his insertions with tracked changes without it applying the strike-through on top of the insertion (underline). Previously, if he had tracked changes on and then inserted text, and then deleted it, it would simply delete the insertion (rather than applying the strike-through). Here are a couple notes:

- He's always logged in as himself on the same computer, so it's not trying to see him as a new user. His user is always listed as the same (not showing him as multiple users).

- It DOESN'T happen with things he had inserted that same day. While testing in his documents with tracked changes on, I could insert text and then delete it without that deletion being tracked (the insertion will just delete, not display as a strike-through). However, if he tries to delete an insertion that he had previously added (usually before his last log-out) then it does apply the strike-through.

- This happens regardless of whether or not "Always Use These Values Regardless of Office SIgn In" is checked.

This is driving him nuts. Does anyone have any tips?

Thank you!

Leah

Hi Leah,

I tested your issue in my own environment, Im not sure if my understanding is correct, but I really the difference between earlier version of Word and Word 2013.

You said >>unable to delete his insertions with tracked changes without it applying the strike-through on top of the insertion (underline) <<, in my environment (Word 2007, sorry I dont have 2003 environment) if I use Track changes and delete some original words I can get the result as TEST, but in Word 2013 if I delete the original word it just delete.

Then I find in Word 2007 the Display for Review drop-down menu, you can find four options as shown in the following figure:

But in Word 2013 the Display for Review drop-down menu, the four options are:

Then back to your issue, I found if I deleted the original words and I selected All Markup, I found the result changed to TEST, but not just deleted. Now I suppose this issue might be caused by new design in Word 2013.

There are definitions for four options of Display for Review in Word 2013:

  • Simple Markup: This shows the final version without inline markups. Red markers will appear in the left margin to indicate where a change has been made.
  • All Markup: This shows the final version with inline markups.
  • No Markup: This shows the final version and hides all markups.
  • Original: This shows the original version and hides all markups.

I suggest you can refer to this article about Track changes in Word 2013:
