Cached mode roaming users - outlook 2013

Hello all, I have a problem and I hope you can help me with it.

I have set-up outlook cached mode with gpo's, I changed the default location of the ost file to: c:\users\%username%\outlook. Roaming profile has also been configured. I've done this so that the ost file will not be downloaded everytime a user logs on to a new computer. (the DC is in another location and goes over a vpn connection). The users use multiple computers to log in and do there work.

Now the problem is, that everytime a user switches a computer and starts outlook, they will get the error message "outlook is using an old copy of your offline file folder (.ost)". I don't understand why outlook will not just overwrite the old ost file with the new changes?

Has anyone else seen this problem and knows a solution? I cannot use online mode in outlook,  because of the vpn connection.

Greets,

Edsley

Hi,

You have your Outlook OST file redirected to a network location, correct? It's not recommended to put Outlook data files on a shared location because it may cause enormous network strain, syncing issues, data file corruption and some other unexpected issues. See:

If you really want to use roaming profile with Outlook, considering that you cannot use online Exchange mode in Outlook, it's recommended to cache the OST file to each computer you used. Although it take up your bandwidth, it's a one-time thing.
