Cached exchange mode doesnt download restored emails unless turned off.. disable feature completely via gpo?
We have outlook 2007/2003 clients.. we recently had a catastrophe that meant we lost all emails prior to say 30 days ago.. on exchange 2007 I restored the email, but users with cached exchange mode didnt get the restored emails, even 1 day later, despite trying to close and reopen outlook (either version).. Going into accounts and un checking cached exchange mode fixed this issue.. Should I consider using a gpo and turning this feature off permanently.. would this be a bad thing, besides users not being able to "Cache" any emails when the server is rebooted (rare)... We have 40 users or so.. Any thoughts.. and also.. does anyone know where in the gpo settings are the options to disable it (the same as unchecking it).. (I'm guessing if i force this via gpo, the user, unless a domain admin, wont be able to turn it back on though).. The only gpo settings i see are for the file.. cached exchange mode.. Thanks

Here is the cached mode gpo info: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011402591033.aspx I wouldnt turn this off. Occasionally you will have issues with the ost file, but its been my experience these are far and few between, and usually have pretty simple fixes. cached mode significantly reduces network traffic, provides a level of redundancy for exchange and enables the junk email filter. all great features. hope this helps
