Cached Exchange Mode
This may be an Outlook 2007 problem, if this is the wrong place to discuss this question, I apologize. I prefer that my users NOT use Cached Exchange Mode when they set up Outlook 2007. I found a Group Policy setting that automatically disables CEM when a user sets up Outlook. However, some of my users will use CEM, and when I use the Group Policy setting, it disable CEM from being turned on. The problem I run into is that I have some users whowill useCEM and some who will not in the same OU (and thus the same GPO's). Is there another way to make it so CEM is turned off by default. Thanks for your help, John Dombrowski

What does gpresult say from user workstations? Are the policies being applied?

Yes, the policy works. Cached Exchange Mode gets disabled. The problem is that when this policy is applied, you don't have the option to use Cached Mode. For example, in my Admin Users OU I have one user who will use Cached Exchange Mode and the otherten users will not. If I apply the GPO to this OU, I don't have the option to Enable Cached Exchange Mode for the one user who needs to use it. I was hoping there was anExchange settings somewhere that makes users default to NOT use Cached Exchange Mode, but people can enable it if they so choose. Sorry for the confusion. John

Cached mode is a client/application setting, so there isn't going to be anything within Exchange, per se, to adjust this. you can just filter the group policy so that it doesn't apply to the specific user by security rights. you can do this by group membership, or individual user account. you could also put non-cached mode users in a seperate OU. http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/c24b8da7-8ff6-4e20-928e-3f1facf1bdfc1033.mspx?mfr=true

Clarify: what you want to achieve is, disable Cached Exchange Mode (CEM) default, and then enablespecific users CEM, right? Heres the workaround for you: Disable the CEM when deploy outlook 2007 by using Office Customization Tool (OCT) Please view Cached Exchange Mode section from the article OCT in the Office 2007 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179097(TechNet.10).aspx Configuration: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179184(TechNet.10).aspx
