CHKDSK /F on Exchange Mailbox Store volumes
Hi, I have a dirty volume on my Exchange 2010 Server on my passive node C:\Users\chkntfs k: The type of the file system is NTFS. K: is dirty. You may use the /C option to schedule chkdsk for this drive. K: Volume is on a SAN (don't think I can do a chddsk on reboot) On that volume I have 9 Mailbox Stores, healty copy status Is it a good idea? Any procedures? Thanks, jasmin

As per my understanding, You must see some other way to run chkdsk from storage side, Does the SAN not have some kind of management interface that you could use instead? If not, and you're insistent on using chkdsk, you will need to prevent all access to the array concerned and then run chkdsk from your server. Hold on so some other expert can share their experience. Thank you for your response, Here is what I did : - Suspend database copy - Stop Exchange services - Change Page Files location if needed - Procede with CHKDSK /F. All me need is no file access Jasmin

Generally, CHKDSK /F on Exchange Mailbox Store volumes is a NO NO.this might leave you with a corrupted database(s). If you are about to do this, and since this is your "passive" node, you can: - Take a full successful backup. - remove the copies on that volume from the DAG. - delete (move) the databas files/logs from the disk - perform CHKDSK /F and confirm the volume is now dirty-free. Another thing, I suggest you share with your storage vendor this info, dirty volume may be a warring for a bigger problem that might happen in the future.Ibrahim Al Masry www.ibra.me
