CCR SP2 Upgrade Failure
Hopefully someone can help me. I am just upgrading our Exchange 2007 SP1 environment to SP2. The HT upgraded with no problems, and so I moved onto the CCR Cluster. I have been following these instructions: http://www.howexchangeworks.com/2009/08/upgrading-exchange-2007-ccr-to-sp2.html Unfortunatly the upgrade failed part way through when I was upgrading the passive node. Here is the output: F:\APPS\ExSP2>Setup.com /Mode:Upgrade Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup The following server roles will be upgraded Mailbox Role Management Tools Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check Mailbox Role Checks ......................... COMPLETED Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server Preparing Setup ......................... COMPLETED Removing Exchange Files ......................... COMPLETED Preparing Files ......................... COMPLETED Copying Exchange files ......................... FAILED Installing product F:\APPS\ExSP2\exchangeserver.msi failed. The system cann ot find the file specified. Error code is 2. The Exchange Server Setup operation did not complete. For more information, visi t http://support.microsoft.com and enter the Error ID. Exchange Server setup encountered an error. The files are in the correct location despite the error and now when I try to re-run I get the following error: F:\APPS\ExSP2>Setup.com /Mode:Upgrade Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup An error occurred when setup was getting the configuration information of the current server. Setup can not continue. Please restart Exchange Server 2007 Setup to retry. Exchange Server setup encountered an error. So now I have a working Active node and a passive node in a failed state. Can anybody please help. Thanks Octavius

Hope you have done below points before move on for upgrade. 1: Stop any monitoring service running on server 2: Stop scan mail (any AV for exchange) service 3: Reboot after installer 4.5 and then re-run setup. 4: Besides, please ensure that you have disabled TCP Chimney, RSS and NetDMA. Information about the TCP Chimney Offload, Receive Side Scaling, and Network Direct Memory Access features in Windows Server 2008http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951037 How to Upgrade a Clustered Mailbox Server in a CCR Environment to Exchange 2007 SP1 or SP2http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676320.aspx Anil

Hi, Thanks for the replies. Things have moved on a bit,but before I can continue, Anil I can confirm I stopped monitoring and AV and I will double check on your points in no.4. Sergey, an up to date log output follows. I rebooted the server and did a little bit of research and discovered an issue where Exchange SP2 can error when the EXChelp.chm file is missing. So I sorted that one and tried running the setup again and alittle progress was made until: E:\SP2>setup.com /MODE:Upgrade Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Unattended Setup Preparing Exchange Setup The following server roles will be upgraded Mailbox Role Management Tools Performing Microsoft Exchange Server Prerequisite Check Mailbox Role Checks ......................... COMPLETED Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server Preparing Setup ......................... COMPLETED Preparing Files ......................... COMPLETED Copying Exchange files ......................... COMPLETED Mailbox Server Role ......................... FAILED The Windows Cluster service encountered an error during function ClusterOpenEnum. So that is where I am now. Any ideas on this? You can open and check cluster.log in "C:\Windows\Cluster" directory ? What do you see ? What error you see in EventLog when try install SP2 ? p.s Before install SP2 Please run ExchBPA, what error reporting he give ?

You can open and check cluster.log in "C:\Windows\Cluster" directory ? What do you see ? What error you see in EventLog when try install SP2 ? p.s Before install SP2 Please run ExchBPA, what error reporting he give ? Well, there is no cluster.log in that directory I am afraid. However in the EventLog I get: Event 1002, MSExchangeSetup Exchange Server component Mailbox Role failed. Error: Error: The Windows Cluster service encountered an error during function ClusterOpenEnum. The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started I have not run ExchBPA yet, I am a little nervous, can you confirm that this is a non-disruptive check for me. Just a sanity check that is all :-) My sanity that is... Cheers O

Hi, We can use ExBPA to have a health scan for the server and then get the report which can help us to toubleshoot the issue. It will not affect the server configuration or data. Besides, I'd like to verify something with you: 1. You have follow the steps in the following article How to Upgrade a Clustered Mailbox Server in a CCR Environment to Exchange 2007 SP1 or SP2http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676320.aspx 2. Please check event log to see if any cluster related issue has been logged there. Regards, Xiu

[05/04/2010 16:58:38] [1] 0. ErrorRecord: The Windows Cluster service encountered an error during function ClusterOpenEnum. [05/04/2010 16:58:38] [1] 0. ErrorRecord: Microsoft.Exchange.Common.ExClusTransientException: The Windows Cluster service encountered an error during function ClusterOpenEnum. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started Usually this error occurred when you have problem with cluster configuration. You can run Cluster Administration tool and check cluster validation on both nodes ? Also you can run ExchBPA, this is safe for your cluster.
