CAS changes
Hello, If I have a CAS Server and then I replace it with a different CAS with a different name or maybe I create a CAS Array, I have to always update with set-mailboxdatabase -rpcclientaccessserver ? If I have 3 mailbox databases and I install another CAS Server, I can decide which CAS server will server which mailbox database ? Also if I setup a CAS Array do I need to make it resolvable externally like for example casarray.domain.com and with the dns entry ? Thanks

Thanks If you have Multiple CAS servers installed on Same Site you can create CAS array and set the mailbox database RPC client access server. After creating array add the cas servers and on each database you need to define the array name. Create a dns entry for client access array in your local DNS. Thanks Mhussain

The Best practice is you should create a CAS array doesn't matter weather there is one CAS server or Many. Yes you have to point your mailbox servers to CAS arrary or to particular CAS server box. To resolve CAS array externally is a choice, if your external Access and CAS array name is same then yes otherwise no need.Best Rgds, Ashish | Unified Comunication | MCTS | MCITP | Please remember to select option "Propose As Answer" if solution work for you | My posts hold no assurances, no promises, and they measured no rights.

Remember that the CAS Array is for RPC access only, so there is no need to publish externally. You would rely on Outlook Anywhere (MAPI/RPC encapsulated in HTTPS) and not MAPI connectivity from the outside. In fact, it is recommended that you do not publish the name externally or your Outlook client will have to go through an extended timeout period before it flips to Outlook anywhere. Once the CAS array is configured, all new databases will set its -RpcClientAccessServer parameter to the CAS array name by default. Any databases created before that will need to be conifigured to use the CAS Array as the -RpcClientAccessServer with the Set-MailboxDatabase command.Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington
