Backuping up CCR passive node with BackupExec
Is anyone out there using BackupExec 12d to backup the passive node of a CCR cluster using GRT? The backup job reports successful but when we try to restore the Information Store is not on the tape and we cannot browse to mailboxes to recover individual messages. The weird thing is that it works when we backup to disk but not to tape. Below is BackupExecs explanation, before I open a case with MS I was wondering if anyone has seen this before. This is Exchange 2007 SP1 running on Server 2008. Everything is fully patched. We have tried reseeding the DBs on the passive node. The option works when backing up the active node. The reason that the GRT restore option works from disk rather than from tape is because of the following: *** Disk backups *** - The Exchange database is copied in its native form to a folder and it is readable in Windows - Backup Exec has an internal Exchange database viewer in which it can open and read the contents of the EDB file *** Tape backups *** - The Exchange database is backed up to tape as a compressed format (MTF) and it is NOT readable in Windows - Backup Exec has to use the MAPI and CDO components on the Exchange server to have a list of the contents of the database sent to Backup Exec for generation of a CATALOG file for restore selections When the MAPI and CDO components on the Exchange server are not working correctly, no individual restore data for the contents of the database will be sent to Backup Exec. The database is still backed up but there will be no GRT data available for selection. The problem is when the PASSIVE NODE role is held by EXMB2, it fails to present GRT data for restore when going to tape. If the PASSIVE NODE role is held by EXMB1, it does present GRT data for restore when going to tape. This means that the EXMB02 server has a problem with MAPI and CDO components or with the configuration of Exchange. Thanks for any help, Jay
