Autodiscover redirect - VERY SLOW (and a bit dumb)

Hi,

We have an Autodiscover redirect going on in our hybrid environment, because of our many SMTP domains. It's the standard "autodiscover.otherdomain.com gets redirected to autodiscoverredirect.maindomain.com, then eventually tries port 80 andthen gets redirected by ARR to autodiscover.maindomain.com" thing.

It works, eventually, but it takes about 5mins and tries the original https address again and again. It realises it's timed out against the original autodiscover host but it keeps trying!

All these attempts are against the same https URL and it just doesn't get that it should now try the http version.

Any ideas?

Why not using SRV record instead of HTTP redirect?

We're using Office 365 Hybrid (sorry, I should have mentioned that) so I believe it's not supported.

Hi,

For your question, I find an similar thread about it. Please refer to:
https://community.office365.com/en-us/f/158/t/270881

"Using group policy preferences registry settings, I pushed and enabled ExcludeHttpsRootDomain and ExcludeHttpsAutoDiscoverDomain. This reduced the autodiscover time from minutes to seconds."

Moreover, here's an article about Office 365 Autodiscover Lookup Process, for your reference:

Thanks for the suggestion Allen.

It's a good recommendation for domain-joined machines, but doesn't address the the strange behaviour (the client is looking for the (correct) address but trying 16 times!)

I'll implement this, and maybe someone has seen this before who can comment further.

Hi,

What's the result about my suggestion?
Also, try run ExRCA to test autodiscover so that we can get more details about your question.
