Autodiscover/Outlook Anywhere Issues
I am having problems with my Exchange 2007 SP1 server. It is a single box so all the Exchange services are running on this one box which is a member server in a Windows 2003 Server domain. The really frustrating part is that Outlook Anywhere and OWA used to work great until I started messing with ActiveSync so my users could check email via their mobil devices. Now for some reason my LAN users can open Outlook 2007 and OWA just fine. The problems are:1. Users connected via VPN can open OWA but cannot open Outlook 20072. Users on the Internet cannot open OWA or Outlook 2007That being said, when connected via the LAN, which works, I cannot run a "Test E-mail Autoconfiguration". When I run the test I get the following:Attempting URL https://email.[censored]/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml found through SCPAutodiscover to https://email.[censored]/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml startingAutodiscover request completed with http status code 403Autodiscover to https://email.[censored]/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml FAILED (0x80004005)Not sure if it matters but I am using a single certificate and have tried the following:IIS1. Autodiscover as a virtual directory2. Autodiscover as a separate web site3. Autodiscover with and without SSLDNS1. Autodiscover A record2. Autodiscover self named zone with forward to email.domainname.com A recordAny thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

So I tried to basically go through all the inital steps required to setup Outlook Anywhere for the first time. I did this by following the steps in this article which is also the article I used when I did initally set this up and had it working: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332063(EXCHG.80).aspx Unfortunately it did not fix my problem but it did change the errors I get when I run "Test Email Autoconfiguration", I uncheck both of the Guesssmart boxes if that matters. Now I get the following: Attempting URL https://<FQDN>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml found through SCP Autodiscover to https://<FQDN>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting Autodiscover to https://<FQDN>/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml FAILED (0x800C8203) This repeats itself for the other URLs and the local autodiscover. However on the final item, Srv lookup, it fails with (0x80004005). If I can't find a solution by Saturday I think I will uninstall Exchange and start over.

Hi, Please understand that we are still able to send/receive email through Outlook Anywhere even if the Autodiscover does not work. Therefore, they are separated issues. I suggest we focus on the Outlook Anywhere issue firstly. 1. Please let me know what error is encountered when attempting to connect to Exchange through Outlook Anywhere by using external client and when the issue is encountered. 2. Please access the following URL from the external client: https://<external host name which you configured in Outlook Anywhere>/rpc/rpcproxy.dll Note: I suggest you configure Basic Authentication for Outlook Anywhere. By default, you should get a blank page after typing user name and password. Nevertheless, if any error is encountered (error code or certificate related warning), please let me know. Mike

Thank you Mike for the assistance, I really appreciate it. To answer your questions: 1. I open Outlook, it loads my profile, says "Trying to connect to Microsoft Exchange", prompts me for my UN/PW (does not do this when local)", then just says "Disconnected". When I click on details I see an error: "Task 'Microsoft Exchange' reported error (0x8004011D) : 'The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists.'" 2. When I enter the URL you asked me to, it prompts for UN/PW but then I get a "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page." I hope this helps and thanks again. Jeff

I too am also having a similar issue. Everything appears to be configured correctly - outlook anywhere enabled and external URL configured correctly - I can access the OWA site just fine but i get the Task 'Microsoft Exchange' reported error (0x8004011D) : 'The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists" when i do a send receive when im not at the office. - I am able to access the https://<external host name which you configured in Outlook Anywhere>/rpc/rpcproxy.dll and it goes to a blank page after i type in my user name and password. - I have port 443 forwarded to my exchange server. Have you been able to find resolution on this issue yet? i noticed that you haven't posted a message for approx 2 weeks so i am hoping that you have found a resolution

I wondup just taking a weekend and staging the server. Everything works great now except for ActiveSync but that is no big deal. Basically my users can't check their email from their smartphones using Outlook Mobile but they can still use owa on their phones. Pretty sure my ActiveSync issue is ssl related but I can't find the problem and don't want to spend a bunch of time on it. One of these days I may revisit the problem but for now I'm content.
