Hi Experts, Customer would like to set auto reply for distribution group with original subject in Exchange 2007. Any advices are really apprectiated. I have two questions. 1) The method: adding a fake mail account which is a memeber of the distribution group, then set the auto reply in the mail account's outlook rule. When the sender send the email to the group, the auto reply from the mail account member cannot work. is it right? 2) How can we set the original subject in the auto reply email? any script can be used in the email template? or any other method? 3) Any other ideas? Hi, As per my knowledge, you can create an internal mail account to receive messages from this distribution group, which can be achieved by transport rule. And then you can create Outlook rule to auto reply messages to this distribution group. You can refer to the following steps: Note: Here, let’s say the given internet address is abc@123.com 1. On Exchange server, open Exchange Management Console (EMC) 2. Create a new mailbox named as “BCC”; after the mailbox is created, set to hide it from Exchange address lists. This is to ensure users will not notice the existence of the “BCC” mailbox 3. Create a mail contact for the given internet address abc@123.com like below; you could also consider to hide this public/internet contact from address lists 4. Navigate “Organization Configuration” -> “Hub Transport” -> “Transport Rules”, follow the steps below to create a Transport Rule to BCC inbound emails (from the given address abc@123.com to any internal users) to the “BCC” mailbox that is created at Step 2 a) At “Introduction”, name the Transport Rule b) At “Condition”, select option “from people” and define the “people” as mail contact “abc” that is created at Step 3 c) At “Actions”, select option “Blind carbon copy the message to address” and define the “address” as “BCC” mailbox that is created at Step 2 d) Leave other settings blank and finish rule creation e) Restart Exchange Transport service to ensure the rule takes effect 5. After doing steps above, all emails from abc@123.com to any internal user will be silently copied to the “BCC” mailbox. Please use abc@123.com to send an email to your mailbox, then verify to see if the test message will be BCCed to “BCC” mailbox 6. If it works, we have done Part One “Transport Rule”, and now we will move to “Outlook Rule” 7. Use Outlook to logon to mailbox “BCC”, use “Rules and Alerts” to create an Outlook Rule as following: a) In the Rule wizard, select Condition as from people “abc” b) At “Action”, select option “have server reply using a specific message” c) Click “a specific message” to edit the auto-reply email template, such as “Subject”, “Body”. Note: as the auto-reply is sent back to abc@123.com, so just leave “recipient” (To or CC) of the message template as blank d) Finish the wizard, and ensure “Turn on this rule” Note: As this is an Outlook Server-side rule, it doesn’t require to keep the “BCC” mailbox running. Even we close the “BCC” mailbox, the rule still functions. 8. After that, we need to configure Exchange server to allow sending “automatic replies”. For detailed steps, please refer to the following: a) Navigate “Organization Configuration” -> “Hub Transport” -> “Remote Domains” b) Double click entry “Default”, at tab “Format of original message …”, check box “Allow automatic replies” c) Click OK to complete configuration and restart Transport service to ensure change takes effect Hope this helps. Hello, After my research, exchange has no capacity to set Auto-Reply for Group. We just can set the fake mailbox as the same name as group. And then forward the mail to group. After that, we can set the auto reply in fake account outlook rule. The advantage of it is sender will not receive the internal members of group OOF email. The disadvantage of it is using outlook to set the rule. Auto reply in outlook cannot reply with the original subject. Maybe some third party software such as auto reply manager, can realize it. but it cannot realize in exchange 2007 server. ..Best regards, Lester Chen
