Auto reply for certain accounts possible in Exchange 2007 or Outlook 2007?
We'd like to setup an auto reply to an account in exchange.. Is the best way to do this, using the out of office assistant in Outlook, or is there a cleaner way of doing this? (IE: I think outlook prompts you every time you launch outlook to turn this off if it is on).. Perhaps a server side blurb that can be set and sent each time someone emails the account (from offsite)? Cheers

You could do an OOF from outlook, or a custom NDR, etc as a hub transport rule. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998860.aspx

Well they could NDR the message with a custom text (after all the 5.7.1 and RFC requirement stuff), that's about the best you'll get. Or you could redirect to another address, but that doesn't seem to accomplish your goal.

This has me wondering what other companies are using to auto reply to the general publics emails.. For us it seems to be, use Out of office wizard or maybe buy a 3rd party plugin.

THere are quite a few third party tools. Heck, you can even do it with sharepoint server 07. I think GFI mail essentials has it as well.

I'd use a work flow, so when an email arrived to a particular discussion group it triggered another outbound email...might take a little .net though. I'm no sharepoint guru, so you might try posting in the sharpoint groups. If the sharepoint tip turned out helpful, please mark it as such.
