Auto Archive option is missing Outlook 2010
We are having an issue where our users cannot auto archive their mail. The option simply is not there. It is supposed to be under advanced options in the file menu for outlook 2010, but we cannot find it. Is there a setting we need to enable for that to show up? I have searched on it and cannot seem to find an answer. Outlook 2010 Exchange 2010 sp1

Have you enabled the Exchange online archive feature? If so, Outlook auto archiving is disabled.

Well, I've been very wrong in discussions with AndyD before ... Actually on my Windows 7 box with Office 2010 Professional Plus 64-bit, this feature is missing as well. On my Exchange 2010 box with a stand-alone version of Outlook 2010, this features is there. It is as well on my Norwegian Windows 7 32-bit with Office 2010 Professional Plus, even without having configured a single mail account (just installed it on VMware Fusion). Wonder if it could be related to the matters discussed here: Henrik Walther: "Okay I researched this quite a bit now and I was able to repro in my lab. The thing is that the retention policies and personal archive aren’t available in the Outlook 2010 Pro plus retail version currently on TechNet/MSDN (when using the keys delivered with it)." Personal Archive gone after upgrading to Outlook 2010 RTM? http://blogs.msexchange.org/walther/2010/04/23/personal-archive-gone-after-upgrading-to-outlook-2010-rtm/ I think this applies to early versions on Select as well (but not sure). AndyD: Have you enabled the Exchange online archive feature? If so, Outlook auto archiving is disabled. Again I was a bit too fast. You are right again. The account I experienced with on my Exchange Server had its Personal Archive enabled, but not configured. On my Mac, as soon as I had configured my own account, the option AutoArchive was removed. As soon as I use a different account, the option comes back.MCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M | Small Business Specialist

So you are saying if we have online archiving enabled that it disables the auto archive feature? Is it possible to turn it back on or do I have to create a rule to allow for it?

If the Online Archive is enabled, why do you need to auto-archive to a pst?

I guess I misunderstood what the auto archive option did. I did not realize that It was ONLY to a local .pst that it would save it to. I thought it could go to the online archive. For my users who want to auto archive to their online archive, that would be done through a rule i'm assuming then?

That will actually happen automatically based on the retention settings. http://port25.wordpress.com/2009/08/31/exchange-2010-archive-mailbox-and-retention-policies-part-1/ You can stop the auto archiving to the online archive if you put the mailbox on retention hold.

Dear all, I have the same problem like that. I try setting online archive on my account, archive option not found in Outlook 2010. After I disable archive on my account, remove retention policy, remove disconnected online archive mailbox..., Archive options still missing in Outlook 2010. My server is Exchange 2010 SP1. Thanks,

I'm having a similar problem, however it only appears on some machines and not others regardless of WinXP/Win7 or version of Outlook. In Outlook 2010, Archive is grayed out under File > Mailbox Clean Up and is not available on the File menu in Outlook 2007. There is no archiving enabled via Exchange 2010 SP1 or by GPO. Some people simply have it and others do not. Running a repair using Office setup fixed for one person, but its disappeared on her again, and repair doesn't bring it back.
