Attachments not opening in Outlook 2013

Hello Jb,

Check out the security settings in Outlook:

If the Attachment Preview option is not checked and the Previewers list is not empty, see You may receive an "Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments" message in Outlook .

Finally, the current forum is for developers. I'd recommend asking non-programing questions on the Outlook IT Pro Discussions or Microsoft Community forums instead.

Hi,

I have recently start using Outlook 2013 on a fresh machine with a new installation. From the very first day i am not able to open any attachments from my mail (by double clicking it). Thing is, it will start working fine once i saved it in my disk. From outlook when i try to open nothing happens.

Following are the things i have tried till now..:

1. Checked the temporary files getting dumped at the OutlookSecureTemp folder path. Even from these temp. files the attachment is opening.

2. Checked in the control panel proper program is set to open that file.

3. User has the permission to write in to OutlookSecureTemp folder.

4. Tried changing the registry path of the OutlookSecureTemp folder though was not able to do it.

5. Check the trust center setting and make sure nothing is blocking the attachments.

Please advise the next step.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Eugene.

I had already tried your suggestion but no help. And one more thing is i am not getting any sort of error while trying opening attachments directly, nothing.

Though i had posted this question in link you provided.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jb

The forums on MSDN target programming questions, not "how do I do this in [Outlook]?" You'll find many more people with experience on how to use and configure Office applications in the Answers forums and in the IT Pro forums on the TechNet site. I can't move discussions to "Answers", but I can to TechNet. Would you like me to move this for you?

Hi,

Please right click on the attachment, then click "Open", does this work?

We can also start Outlook in Safe Mode to troubleshoot if it's caused by some 3rd-party add-ins:

Press Win + R, type "Outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.

Then Outlook will start in Safe Mode, check whether the issue persists. If no, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which one caused the issue.

Hi Melon,

Yeah i tried that unfortunately doesn't help.

One more thing is the problem is happening with one type of attachments only (some shortcuts generated through my customized application), rest all other attachments are working fine.

If i save my shortcuts to my computer they also work fine which gives me the compression that my application code is working fine and something wrong is with the Outlook 2013. Also my shortcuts works fine in Outlook 2010.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks
