Attachment Notification Exchange 2003
Hi, we limit attachments to 10mb, and if they are over, of course they are bounced with the appropriate server message. Is it possible for the local user to get a notification that they were sent an over sized message that has failed. The reason is that we need to be sensible on the attachment sizes, but at the same time we dont want to lose any business due to emails not being received.regardsMark

Hi,I undestand that you want to restrict the local users from sent emails larger than X size but you want external clients to be abble to send email bigger than the size of the restriction that you have specified to your local users...The solution is simple.1.- Connect to the console or the RDP of your exchange server 2003.2.- Open Exchange System Manager3.- Open your First Organization4.- Expand Global Settings5.- Select Message Delivery6.- Action >> Properties7.- On the Message Delivery Properties click on the tab Defaults8.- Then specify the maximum size of the sending email with the size X that I explain previously9.- Leave the Receiving message size on No limit to make sure that from external clients you can receive any email size.I hope this help you. Good Luck!!! Regards,

No, thats not what I want :), but thanksi already have attachemnt limitations in place, what I want is for one of our users to be notified if an email has been bounced by our server for being too large based on the users settings. So, lets take John Do, his size limits are set at send and receive to 8mb. He is sent an email with a 10mb attachnment, our server will bounce it back to the sender, but John will have no idea that he has just failed to receive an email with the 10mb attachment as Exchange has not notified him. I am after a way to inform our local user that they have just lost an incoming email.regards

Hi Mark,AFAIK, there isn't any mechanism in Exchange 2003 which notifies to recipient automatically when any messages was rejected due to attachment size by Exchange which wasintendedto send him/her.Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
