The P plan does support the advanced features of Exchange such as email archiving. It is my understanding that you can't add Email archiving to a P plan. Thus to access this functionality you need to change to at least an E3 plan or Exchange Plan 2 in Office
365. Unfortunately, there is no upgrade path from P plans to E plans. You need to migrate out of P and migrate back to E. There are however some third party services that offer this migration service but it is not a native part of Office 365.
To view the online Exchange archive you need Outlook from the Professional Plus version of Office. You can always access the archive via Outlook Web Access if you don't have a suitable version of Outlook.
The Office 365 P plan gives you 25GB in total. Couldn't you simply create a sub folder and archive there? What about setting up a forwarding rule that moves emails from Exchange to another hosted mail site? You could create a Hotmail account, link it to
Outlook along with Office 365 and use the Hotmail mailbox for archiving.
Hope that helps.
