Archiving User emails that are connected to an Exchange Server
I recently had to archive a users Outlookthat reached it's 2gb limit on the exchange server. To my suprise when I looked at how much space he was still using it had only gone from 2,049.2mb to 1,638.8mb. I archived everything older than 3 months ago and I know for a fact that he has not gotten 1.6 gb of email in the last 3 months. Any idea's as to what could be causing this? Thank you, David92595

Check your retension periods; Depending on the Exch server, there could be other contributions which may do this.Sukh

By the way, which version of Exchange server do you use? Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010? How did the user archive the mail items? How did you check the mailbox space(1,638.8mb)? You may need to compact the ost file: How to compact PST and OST files to eliminate deleted item space in Outlook http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289987Frank Wang TechNet Community Support

Hi David, If you deleted lots of items, the compacting process could take a long time. During this time you cannot use Outlook, either. Please do it in your off-peak times.Frank Wang TechNet Community Support
