Alias address does not appear in received message
Hi Guys, We have just gone through a exch 5.5 to Exch 2003 migration. As a consequence some "old features" no longer work. When a message is sent to an alias address the received message in Outlook show's the exchange mailbox name instead of the expected alias. This makes it difficult to distinguish mesaging that was sent to admin@johndoe.com as opposed to john.doe. We would like to see admin@johndoe.com as the recipient and not john.doe as is the case right now. I know that we can create a seperate mailbox (or even a public folder)for admin and assign rights to allow john doe to have access. We would like to avoid thisif possible. Asking the user to trace headers is impracticle. I am hoping someonecanpoint me in the direction ofa simple registry change or tick box that will make the alias visible as the recipient. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Peter

I'm a little confused with your choice of "johndoe.com" and john.doe and admin (which is the user which is the domain), but I think I understand your question. You want Outlook to display the smtp address in the "To" field instead of the AD display name? I would also like to know this. I am mc@mydomain.com and also i have alerts sent to another smtp address I have called alerts@mydomain.com. its hard to tell with out looking at headers what smtp address it was actually sent to from the internet. I've found this, which isn't exactly what you are asking for, but it might help you in your search anyway: http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2006/11/how-to-prevent-sending-display-names.html This may be closer: http://help.lockergnome.com/office/SMTP-address-Exchange-recipient-ftopict1002604.html

Hi Peter,Did you ever figure this out? I've got about 50-100 aliases across multiple domains. For example, I have info@foo.com and info@bar.com both going to the same people and The Boss wants to be able to tell if the email was sent to info@foo.com or info@bar.com. I'm working on Exchange 2007 and this is really annoying (it worked in sendmail!). My workaround for now (which is really obnoxious) is to create a distribution group for each address. This works but it really clogs my distribution group list. I do at least hide the groups from the address list but it's still annoying. Thanks,Carl
