After rebuild outlook index the searching function still can't work, outlook is 2007

Dear all,

Need help! Any idea will be appreciated.

Real issue from working, one user reported to us that the searching function in outlook becomes abnormal, by remote checking then knows after searching key word the result can't reflect recent mails.

So refer to below guide then I rebuilded his outlook index and makes sure the indexing is on going and then the index is finished normally. But later user ping me in lync and says the issue still comes and now nothing can be found after doing any searching. So I did remote again and rename his outlook.ost but it still can't work.

The user's windows is win7 and outlook version is 2007.

Thanks

Hello,

There are some possible solutions to solve your query:

  • Select Outlook Data File. To do so, try this: Tools >> Options >> Search Option >> In the Indexing section you can select which data file to index.

  • If you have marked Outlook Data File & still Outlook does not show the correct result, then you should run SCANPST.EXE (Inbox Repair Tool).
  • If above both solution does not help, then might be your Index itself has been damaged.

To reset this: Go to Control Panel >> Indexing Options >> Advanced >> Click on Rebuild button.

  • In addition to above step you can also do this, click on Trouble Search and Indexing link which is just below the "Rebuild" button.

Hi Clark Kent,

Thank you for your advice.

I have renamed user's outlook.ost so that it can be rebuilded and before the action I have clicked Rebuild Index for his outlook but both can't work.

My bad. I did not notice that you have OST file and recommended scanpst.exe to repair PST file. Try to repair that OST file using "scanost.exe" which you can found nearby scanpst.exe and keep your Outlook close while doing all this.

Once you are done with repair, open your Outlook and see the results.

Let me know what happens after this?
