After migrating to Exchange 2012 my Outlook 2013 rules do not work

I recently migrated my Exchange 2010 box to Exchange 2012 (all updates required for co-existence have been applied) and since then my Outlook rules are not running automatically. (I have been using Outlook 2013 for a while so there wasn't a change in client after the migration.)

I have tried:

  • deleting and recreating the rule(s) that is used most often;
  • deleting all the rules and recreating just the one that is used most often;
  • deleting and recreating the same rule through OWA;
  • starting Outlook with /cleanrules and recreating the rule;
  • turning off Cached Exchange Mode.

None of this has worked and the rule simply does not run automatically but it will run fine when run manually.

Any ideas?

Hi  ,

Please check the rules are client only rules or server side rules .

I have only one rule at this time and I believe it is a server-side rule. However, the rule does not work whether Outlook is open or not. The only way to get it to work is to run it manually.

Hi  ,

What is the type of e-mail account (POP, IMAP, MAPI or Exchange) setup in Outlook ?

Please try run outlook on safe mode, if it works fine in safe mode, check if there are any add-ins that is causing the issue and disable it.

Try disabling anti-virus then send a test email to run the rule.

Isn't that a server-side rule? If so, why would safe-mode help?

Hi

Does only one user occured this issue ? If yes, please create a new user to test. It looks like can't trigger the conditions, so maybe it is mailbox issue.

Hi Wendy,

I believe it is a mailbox issue. Another use does not have this problem. What troubleshooting steps can I take from here?

I also tried creating a new Exchange 2013 database and moving my mailbox to it. This did not help.

Hi,

I suggest you remove the account from the outlook, and then reconfigure the account of outlook. Then, you could import the rules and test it.

I hope this could help you.

If you have any unclear situations, please feel free to let me know.

Did you figure out how to fix this?  I have the same problem (one user, me).  I'd rather not delete my mailbox on the Exchange server unless I have to.

Would this help if one mailbox? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff625226(v=exchg.150).aspx

Hi.

I was not aware of that command but I will definitely give it a try.

I have not solved the problem however I have recreated all the rules and some of them seem to work. :| Unfortunately, it's not simply a matter of deleting and recreating rules because I've done that on the rules that still don't work, and well... they still don't work. I also don't know at which point the rules began to partially work again because I've done a lot of experiments and have also given up on it for a while so nothing stands out in my mind as being a trigger.

Create the rule in OWA.

Does that work?

I said that in my first post.

I think I found a way to fix this.  I had problems with inconsistency too, and my junk was not moving as expected so I did this:

Logon to OWA
Disable junk email filtering and save that change (under Options, Block and Allow)
Re-enable junk email filtering, and save again

...but if all else fails I'll export my mailbox to PST, delete the 2013 mailbox, create 2013 mailbox, import from PST
