Advice whether to join domain or not
Hello,I have a Standard Exchange Organization. I am upgrading to 2007 from 2003 and have one domain controller used right now. What we are planning is to install another domain controller (redundancy), install a new exchange server 2007 server, install a member server ISA 2006 server. I have read where some people recommend using Exchange server on a member server and others as a domain controller. My question is what is the best practice for setting up Exchange server 2007? Should I make that server domain controller or just a member server? Thanks

Daryl, The new Exchange 2007 server needs to be a member of an Active Directory domain. It is recommended as a best practice to NOT make that server a domain controller as that greatly complicates the installation and support of that server. If you can afford to purchase a smaller, one U server to act as your redundant domain controller that would be best. So stick with that and you will be successful. The only deviation from an Exchange server being a domain member would be with the Edge server role, which cannot be a domain member and has to be installed into a workgroup. hope that helps.
