Advice on using multiple exchange systems on a single domain
We are a multi-site organization that utilizes Exchange 2003 in a front-end/back-end system with a single domain. The single front-end is at our main location, with back-end mail servers at each site. One of the sites wishes to have it's emails come in and out through it's own external pipe (ip address) and not using the main site. The reason is it's business gets impacted by the other businesses email practices. What is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks

Create a Recipient Policy thatapplies only to the mail- and mailbox-enabled AD objects in that site.Add another FE server at the site. Add another Spam-Filter (and maybeanther AV system) at the site. Create another SMTP Connector and scopeit to their Routing Group (they're in a separate RG, aren't they?).Add the MX record for the sub-domain to the external DNS.---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Per my knowledge, the following configuration shall be performed for the task: First, put FE (Main site) and BE1 (Main site) in one routing group (RG1), and put BE2 (Remote site) in another routing group (RG2) Then, create two one-way routing group connectors (RGC1 and RGC2), so enable the mail flow between two RGs Finally, create SMTP connector on RG2 for internet mail flow. If you don’t create the SMTP connector, the remote site’s outbound mail flow will still go through RGC to main site, and then, internet Resources: Exchange Server 2003 Message Routing Topology How to configure the SMTP connector in Exchange 200xJames Luo TechNet Subscriber Support (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/ms788697.aspx) If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com
