Address list priority issue in Exchange 2007 SP2
I recently addedd my first and only custom address list in the address list tab in the Exchange Management Console. After the change was made many of my Outlook 2007 users now had the search order in their address book defaulting to the new custom address list and not the Global Address List. A symptom of this would be creating a new mail message and then typing user in the "To:" box. The user would not come up because it was defaulting the search order to the new custom address list and not the GAL. After removingthe custom address list all was back to normal. As far as I can tell none of the Outlook users have modified their search orders in Outlook. Thanks,Alex

Hi, Did you check this issue in Online Mode? Please try to run get-offlineaddressbook |fl command in EMS, then post the information on the forum. Thanks Allen

Thanks for your reply Allen. This issue happened a few months ago and so I backed out of the problem by removing the custom address list and then having people download the address book again. I want to try and do this again but I am afraid of the same outcome. From what I remembered, this happend in cached mode only. I will run the command above and post the output. Alex

Any update on this? From what I can tell this is an undocumented bug in Exchange 2007 SP2. I have found only a few other cases of this happening, and its all Exchange 2007 SP2. I don't think it has anything to do with new address lists, I believe it has to do with the following setting- Organization Configuration | Mailbox | Offline Address Book | Default Offline Address List | Address Lists | Include the following address lists. When you include additional address lists in the OAB it seems to change the default, e.g. get-offlineaddressbook |fl BEFORE Server : HRSEMAIL AddressLists : {Default Global Address List} --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER Server : HRSEMAIL AddressLists : {New Address List, Default Global Address List} Anyways, very frustrating, I assume it has been fixed in future versions of Exchange, and including the other address lists isn't necessary unless you plan on modifying the Default Global Address List to not include contacts (which is what I was in the process of doing) Set-globaladdress-list Name : Default Global Address List RecipientFilter : (Alias -ne $null -and ((((ObjectClass -eq 'user' -or ObjectClass -eq 'msExchSystemMailbox') -or ObjectClass -eq 'msExchDynamicDistributionList') -or ObjectClass -eq 'group')

I have the same issue in Exchange 2010 SP1, I created an addresslist "All Equipment" for mailboxes of type Equipment, now users get this as their default. Any one who has solved it. The result of a get-offlineaddressbook is {\All Equipment, \All Groups, \All Contacts, \All Users, \All Rooms, \Default Global Address List} Thanks Is there a way yo change the order? If I look with ADSIEdit it is multivalue attribute that sorts it self. Peter

Don't select individual address lists in your OAB. It is a bug as far as I can tell
