Adding another HUB/CAS server
Hi all! I need to add a second HUB /CAS server to my Exchange 2007 SP1 environment. I currently have 2 mailboxes sever running in SCC mode and 1 box running both HUB and CAS, we don't have Edge transport. I want to add another box running HUB and CAS, in case the first one goes down, the second one will pick up. but I am having trouble finding detailed instructions for adding the new server . Is there a recommended procedure for doing this? Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Not really sure what you are expecting. To add the server you just install it. Nothing special has to be done. If you want traffic to both servers, then the SSL certificate will have to be adjusted. However if you want high availability, then you will have to look at NLB. Any reason why you haven't upgraded to Exchange 2007 SP3? Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

Thanks for the response, The reason why I haven't upgraded to Exchange 2007 SP3 is my boss, he doesn't want to. We had an incident last week when our Hub/Cas server went down due to SEP 11, there was no email service for whole day. Now my boss wanted another Hub/Cas for redundancy.

In the current security environment, not upgrading something that is Internet facing like Exchange is a major mistake. SP1 is very old, that also means you are not benefiting from the latest patches and updates to the product. While compromises of Exchange are relatively rare, that is only to say they aren't made public. Running SEP 11 is more of a risk to your Exchange platform than the upgrade. I would strongly encourage you to change your stance and upgrade. Hopefully that isn't the same attitude to Windows updates as well. That may be strong, but I have cleaned up too many servers where keeping them maintained on patch status would have avoided the problem. If you have any issues with Exchange in the future, then the standard response is going to be to update the server to the latest service pack. Hopefully I can talk him down about upgrading it to SP3. Is there any documents/instructions on how to config the NLB? Thanks again for your prompt response,

Here are some NLB articles about HUB/CAS, if you haven't read through them already http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/high-availability-recovery/load-balancing-exchange-2007-client-access-servers-windows-network-technology-part1.html http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/planning-architecture/load-balancing-exchange-2007-sp1-hub-transport-servers-windows-network-load-balancing-technology-part1.html Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | MCSE/MCSA Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog
