Adding a Global Disclaimer to all Exchange 2003 (Ent) email messages - clients use outlook.
Need help adding a Global Disclaimer to all Exchange 2003 (Ent) email messages - clients use Outlook. I found an article describing how to configure a disclaimer using Exchange but it mentions the limitation of not working for MAPI clients. My users have Outlook and I'm assuming Outlook by default uses MAPI? can someone confirm this? I have a few remote users using POP/SMTP & RPC over http but most users connect to the Exchange server internally. Is there a way around this other than purchasing a third party application to add the disclaimer? Thanks!

Outlook indeed uses MAPI to communicate with Exchange Server. With Exchange 2003, you indeed do need a third-party product to provide this functionality. Missy

If you are using outlook, you can configure the disclaimer on the Exchange server. You can either use a third party software or you can create an event sink. Take a look at these articles: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317680 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317327 Third party software: http://www.msexchange.org/software/Disclaimers/ Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+ Houston, TX http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ http://publications.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Yep, but the problem there is that the procedure in those articles doesnt work for mapi clients in this scenario: If you use a MAPI client such as Microsoft Outlook to send the e-mail and if the Exchange mailbox resides on the same server as the event sink binding, the recipient may not receive the modified message. This is because messages that are submitted by using MAPI are not in SMTP format when the e-mail triggers the SMTP transport event. Therefore, changes that are made by the event's code are not persisted.

Agreed. If the Exchange mailbox resides on the same server as the event sink binding. But for sending external emails or another mailbox which resides on a different EX server, you can use MAPI client.
