Adding SIP addresses to distribution lists in EAC

Hello,

I got a question regarding adding email addresses from former employees who aren't being used anymore.

My boss suggested that I could add their addresses to the distribution lists of their respective departments (so that customers' emails end up in a shared department box e.g. Production & Marketing

But that led me to a halt where I get the following error:)

fout
The proxy address "smtp:ross.mueller@regal.com" is already being used by the proxy addresses or LegacyExchangeDN of "ross.mueller". Please choose another proxy address.( The "UserMailbox" with display name "Ross Mueller | Regal Incorporated" is already setup and using the same address.)

I guess that I would have to put the user's email address in the 'deleted users' section.

Is there a better way to accomplish what I am trying to achieve?

Thanks in regards!

Hi,

This forum is for questions and feedback related to Office desktop application. Since you were modifying the distribution list within Exchange Admin Center, it's more likely a server side issue. I'd recommend you post a new question in the Exchange forum for further assistance:

The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.
