Add new user in exchange 2007 console.. user doesnt appear in address book in Outlook right away?
I thought i had the answer to this one..but maybe not.. After i add a new user to the Exchange 2k7 console.. i then goto outlook.. do a send/receive.. check address book.. their name isnt there (even 20 minutes later).. I thought the immediate fix was to goto the console and do an "update" on the offline address book, then hit send receive on the client? This doesnt seem to have done the trick.. Any thoughts?

The client is using cached exchange mode i imagine? Are there errors in the sync log? Are you getting the OAB from a PF or URL?

If you are running RTM version (not upgraded to / installed with SP1) This can be caused if you have manually edited the Primary SMTP Address of some or all of your recipients - RUS in the RTM version does not Update the Windows Email Address (the one shown on the General Tab of ADUC (DSA.MSC) User Properties Dialogue). If there is a mismatch between these two Addresses, (Primary SMTP & Windows Email Address), then you will find OAB Generation does not complete successfully (can be checked through increasing OABGen EventLogging Levels) & the clients using Outlook Cache Mode will not be able to get the Updated Address Book. To increase event logging level use the following Exchange Management Shell cmd-lets: Get-EventLoggingLevel Set-EventLoggingLevel "Service" -level Medium 2. If you have a CCR Mailbox Cluster, then a likely cause is that the cluster has moved on to the second Mailbox Node to be installed. Due to the change in architecture with CCR (no shared storage) it is not possible for RUS & OAB Gen to run on BOTH cluster nodes since it is impossible to keep track of the OABGen Delta's. The OABGen therefore runs ONLY on the First CCR Node installed in the organization. Try moving the cluster to the first installed node, the replicate update the Address lists, GAL, & OAB before finally replicating AD & forcing outlook to redownload the OAB.

I'm running with sp1 RTM, single instance (no clustering here).. I'm not sure i follow your first comments... I think you were asking if i used the old ADUC way of editing their SMTP addresses? I didnt, i used the exchange console to create the new mailbox. I had actually made a change to a user the other day (just their last name), added another SMTP address to this other user.. and later that day they showed up in the address book.. But so far, no luck here.

Run the following in Exchange ManagementShell on your mailbox Server: Set-EventLogLevel "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" -Level Medium Get-GlobalAddressList | Update-GlobalAddressListGet-AddressList | Update-AddressListGet-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook Now See what, if any, errors are logged in your Application Log. For any errors generated against specific Users / Mailboxes: Goto Active Directory Users & Computers Find the User Account for the Mailbox & Open the Properties Dialogue for that User Take note of the Email Address Displayed on the First Tab which opens along with Properties Now in EMC (Exchange Management Console) find the corresponding Mailbox Open the Properties Dialogue & Email Addresses Tab Check to see if the Primary SMTP Address listed here & Windows Email Address match. If the above 2 addresses DO NOT match, this is a likely cause of the problem, correct the Windows Email Address for ALL such instances then run the Address list Updates once more - check Event Log for Errors. Once you are receiving no more Errors, its recommended you set the Event Logging Level back to Default: Set-EventLogLevel "MSExchangeSA\OAL Generator" -Level Lowest Have you checked to see if the name appears in OWA Address Book or in Outlook with Cache Mode Disabled?

Thanks for the tip.. actually.. before i ever had a chance to troubleshoot using your notes, the user appeared.. (the next day).. I had manually run the update OAB before this, not sure why it took so long... I have your comments noted for future reference though.
