Add access to shared mailbox
What rights are need to be able to assign access to a shared mailbox. The technician which I am to assign the rights is already an Exchange view only administrator and is able to create mailboxes but is unable ableto assign other users access to it. Please advise.. Thanks Paul

If using add-mailboxpermission: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124097(EXCHG.80).aspx To run the Add-MailboxPermission cmdlet, the account you use must be delegated, at minimum, the following on the server where the mailbox resides: Exchange Server Administrator or Exchange Organization Administrator Of course, users can also delegate permissions to their own mailboxes, typically through Outlook.

My mistake...I forgot to put in that this is for Exchange Server 2003. Thanks for replying. Paul

2003 permission requirements arent as obvious as, I suspect you'll need to give them org admin or to make more granualar, give a security group full mailbox access and add those users that need it to the security group: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998446(EXCHG.65).aspx Managing Exchange Server 2003 Permissions

Hi Paul, Per my known, on the old and still actual days of Exchange Server 2003 or older, when we created a Shared Mailbox we basically created an Active Directory account with an associated mailbox and those credentials would be shared within who needed to use it; in Exchange Server 2007 what we have is a mailbox with a disabled user and in a way we can give access to users or distributions lists we just add the proper permissions to the mailbox and it is done. And for your target in exchange 2003 system, the public folder maybe good method to share something for the users. Some information for you: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc164321(EXCHG.65).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996122(EXCHG.65).aspx Regards! gavin
