Add Client access server with DR MBX to server clients from DR site.

Hello,

We have a medium size implementation at our company. It is as below,

- Two mail box servers (MBX1, MBX2) at production Site.

- One mail box server (MBXDR01 at DR site (Active))

- One DAG (name: IDKUDAG ) (MBX1,MBX2 and MBXDR01 are members)

- Two Client access servers at production site (with MBX1 and MBX2)

There is a high speed WAN connection between two sites.

What I need to do, I want to add additional CAS server at DR site as in case of production site maintenance or outage I want to migrate the DBs to DR MBX and the CAS server handle mail clients access.

Can I add a new server at the DR site with the same configuration as the production site???

Or there is another solution for this case.

Please advise.

Best regards,

Ahmed Salah

Of course you can add a CAS at DR site but what do you mean by same configuration?

Hello Li,

thanks for the reply,

I meant by same configuration, as my current CAS servers use https://mail.xyz.123.com for OWA, Active Sync , MAPI,...etc

and also the sertificate for it.

So I'll build it the same as the current one the only difference are in the Name and IP/Subnet for this server.

Also how the mail flow will be managed, can I make priority as I want the primery production server handel this flow and in case of unavailability I want the DR CAS handel the clients requests.

Hi Ahmed,

The CAS configuration for Exchange service in the second datacenter can be the same configuration as you mentioned. For example, the same internal&external namespaces for OWA, Autodiscover, EWS, OAB etc. in two datacenters.

Also make sure the certificate has included all needed namespace for the second site. For your reference, here is an article talked about the details of site resilients:
