You'll need to ask the OS and AD questions in the appropriate forums, but for Exchange, you can check:

Prepare Active Directory and Domains
and verify that the items created during the Prep steps are there as well as the setup log and by running ExBpa ( in the EMC toolbox) against the server when done.

What is the server OS?
With Windows 2008 R2, there is a BPA (Best Practices Analyzer) for many of the "roles" including Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) and DNS (one of the foundations of Active Directory).
For Active Directory, running dcdiag at the command line can also be useful - and repadmin as well assuming you have more than one domain controller which is preferable for redundancy:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731968(v=WS.10).aspx
You can google/bing repadmin, but these are two of the most useful for checking replication:
- repadmin /replsum
- repadmin /showrepl
No errors? Last replication successful? That's a good sign. Problem? Post in the Active Directory forum.
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you.

Hello,
For Exchange installation, you can check the setup log under the C: drive.
Thanks,
Simon
