ActiveX Cannot Insert Object

Hi Pros,

I have an issue with ActiveX Control as always got error Cannot Insert Object when i attempted to insert any ActiveX control object into Excel spreadsheet such as Command Button, List box, Combo box etc ...

I had read and follow this blogs but seem not working for my case as well http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/12/11/forms-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates-.aspx

Event try to re-install but same issue. The root cause i still unable to identify yet but i had used 1 WORKING system, after perform regsvr32.exe /u FM20.DLL and register again then this issue came up.

It's very strange also because i had tried this step again on other machine fresh install Windows without any update, it's working fine after regsvr32.exe /u FM20.DLL and register again.

Could it be related to MS Security Update blocked Macro?

Appreciate very much on your help.

Hi,

As far as I know, this issue is caused by the MS14-082 Microsoft Office Security Updates for December 2014. Since you have read this blog: http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2014/12/11/forms-controls-stop-working-after-december-2014-updates-.aspx , we can see that : IMPORTANT NOTE:  Office 2007 differs in install list; you will need to update MSO before the other updates are applied. There is no Access patch needed for 2007.

We'd better install the update first :

MS15-022: Description of the security update for the 2007 Microsoft Office Suite: March 10, 2015 (KB2984939) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2984939

Then install the following updates:

FM20 March 10, 2015 update for Office 2007 (KB2920794) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2920794
Excel MS15-022: Description of the security update for Microsoft Excel 2007 SP3: March 10, 2015 (KB2956103) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2956103
Word MS15-022: Description of the security update for Microsoft Word 2007 SP3: March 10, 2015 (KB2956109) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2956109
PowerPoint MS15-022: Description of the security update for Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 SP3: March 10, 2015 (KB2899580) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2899580
Visio March 10, 2015 update for Visio 2007 (KB2817561) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817561

PS: To apply these security updates, we must have 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 3  installed on the computer

On the other hand, you said >>It's very strange also because i had tried this step again on other machine fresh install Windows without any update, it's working fine after regsvr32.exe /u FM20.DLL and register again.<<

If we didn't install the MS14-082 update, it did not affect this version of Office 2007.

Hope it's helpful.

George Zhao
