Action Disable could not be performed
Hello We are in the process of migrating a legacy system to Exchange 2010. I've discovered that when I created the mailboxes some of the accounts had invalid characters in the mailbox alias. Since we are still in testing I was going to disable the mailbox and then recreate. When I try to do that I get an error that Action Disable could not be performed Error the 'property cannot be empty' Might anyone have any thoughts or a way to just disable and recreate with new alias. Thank You

make sure that user has Display Name and Alias correctly. Does these users have data in the mailbox? If not that try to disconnect them and post the result. Gulab | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2007 | MCC 2011 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah

This is a known issue Exchange doesn't like invalid characters in the alias as noted in article below. However, the question is how was it able to create the mailbox in the first place, are you using another method or 3rd party provisioning tool? Did you try fixing the alias and then trying to disable? If EMC doesn't let you try updating using adsiedit. Could you point me in the right direction to use adsiedit? For whatever reason I was able to create using the standard Exchange tools. Thank YOu

Adsiedit.msc...>Domain Partition..(Default Naming Context)> after that you need to find the Container where you see the user in ADUC. Gulab | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2007 | MCC 2011 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah

I went ahead and used adsiedt to fix the invalid characters. I see the changes in the EMC but it is still not allowing me to edit or disable the mailbox via the EMC Same error as before

Give it sometime or force the replication by replicating the DC's and than tryGulab | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2010 | MCTS-MCITP Messaging: 2007 | MCC 2011 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah

Some suggestions; 1. Try set-mailbox user -applymandatoryproperties 2. Create a new valid mailbox. Then go back into adsiedit and compare all the attributes from the valid mailbox with the bad mailbox and see if the bad mailbox is missing a core attribute. I think something got mucked with during the provisioning of the mailbox and didn't create it correctly.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Is there also an error in the app log when that happens? Please post the exact and full error if so. Does EMC or Powershell throw any errors when you display the mailbox or list with get-mailbox? What were the invalid characters?
