Account creation issues with Exch 07 and AD 2003
I just inherited a domain thatis running AD on 2003 and used to have an Exchnage 2003 server, but now has an Exchange 2007 server. I know Exchange 03, but I am new to 07.One thing I have noticed is that when I try to create an email-enabled object (user, list, etc) using the AD Users andComputers app, the objects don't behave correctly. One example of this is they never get an email address assigned to them. The only way to seem to get an object to create correctly is to generate it in the Exchange Management Console. Is this expected, or is something amiss with my domain?

Hi,Yes this is expected, since Exchange 2007 you will need to create mail groups, contacts and mailboxes via the EMC/EMS.There is a 3rd party tool called Exchange Tasks 2007 this will let you do it via ADUC.See this tutorial to have an overview of the tool:http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-exchange-2007-recipients-active-directory-users-computers-mmc-snap-in.htmlRegards,Johan blog: www.johanveldhuis.nl

Hi Ian,Yes agree with Johan, it is expected because ADU&C can not apply some of the mandatory properties for Exchange 2007 objects and which can be recognized/applied only through EMC/EMS hence it is recommended to use Exchange 2007 management tools. Here is an article to understand when you shouldn't use ADU&C in coexistence....Exchange Server 2007 and 2000/2003 systems management co-existencehttp://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/10/09/429135.aspxReferences:Recipient Management in Exchange 2007 Overviewhttp://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/08/22/428740.aspxA mailbox that is located on an Exchange Server 2007 server may be identified as a legacy mailbox in Exchange Server 2007http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931747Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
