Accessing OWA on a Mac - 32-bit mode requested
Our institution just upgraded to OWA 2010. When I access it remotely from my Mac (running OS 10.6 and Firefox 5.0) and open a window to create a new email or reply to an existing one, I get a warning that a necessary plug-in only runs in 32-bit mode, and I am offered a button to restart the computer in that mode. So far, I am able to send emails without a problem despite the warning, but I'm wondering what plug-in the warning refers to, and what possible loss of functionality I might experience without it. Thanks for your help.

Hi, An important difference between operating in these two modes is that in 32-bit mode, when it comes across software that is compiled for 64-bit operation, it will still run it, with only a small (typically unnoticeable) degradation in performance compared to running the same software in 64-bit mode. On the other hand, when running in 64-bit mode, it can not run 32-bit software. So it need to change to 32-bit mode. Hope it helps. Best Regards!

Thanks for the information. Actually, after viewing my mail in Safari, I discovered that the apparent problem was that MS Silverlight needed an update. Firefox does not seem to be set up to indicate what plug-in is making the 32-bit request and why. Once I updated Silverlight, I no longer received the error messages. Thanks again.
