Access 2010 crashes when attempting to connect to DB2 using ODBC

When one of my users opens MS Access 2010 to access and IBM ODBC database the application always freezes before the "Select Data" source screen appears. Here are the steps:

Open Access > Blank Database > External Data OBDC Databases > Link to data source... > xxFreezexx

We are in a domain environment and the user can perform the task on another PC and others can perform the task on her PC. As a trouble-shooting step, I rebuilt her profile and was able to get the "Select Data" screen as her user account, but as soon as she rebooted, the error returned. The user is the only one with this issue so far.

I have confirmed the following:
  • DB2 loads ODBC databases.
  • Data Sources (ODBC) connection test for data sources works fine.
  • Re-install of Office 2010

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Windows OS is Windows 7 x64
  • DB2 version is 9.5 FP4 x32
  • Microsoft Office 2010 x32
Thank you.

Hi,

Try to start Access 2010 in safe mode to check the issue. If this issue doesn't occur in safe mode, then this issue maybe caused by some add-ins.

If the issue still occurs in safe mode, then start Windows in clean boot to check whether the issue is caused by some third party services.

This is the box not showing after the freeze:

I have exactly this same problem.  Was a solution found ?

I have databases on my laptop that work perfectly in work but when I'm on vpn from home and I try to use Access 2007, the [External Data], [ODBC Database] option just hangs.

I've left it for significant time but no result until I close Access (with red X)

I then get "Microsoft Access is not responding" with options to restart, close or wait.
By select ing close, Access no longer hangs, then shows me the "select data source" window for a split second before closing down.

Very frustrating.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers, Gavin
