Access 2010 Shuts Down when closing reports

We recently upgraded a Server 2003 Terminal Server to Office 2010 from Office 2003.  At the same time we converted an existing Access 2003 database to Access 2010.  Everything went well except a random problem happens when closing reports (in preview).  Not only does the report close but it also shuts down Access with a fatal error.  It is not one report but many that do this.  And it is not every time.  A user may run 7 or 8 reports and then the problem happens with the next report they try.  When they reopen the database the problem may happen on the first report they run or the 20th report they run.

This is the info from the log.

Hi,

Try to check the issue in Access safe mode:

Press the ctrl key when you start the Access program.

If the issue does not occur in safe mode, it is related to some add-ins' conflicts, and we can disable them.

Is "Safe Mode" really the answer?  Or disabling add-ins?  We are having the exact same issue and before even trying the "Safe Mode" option I checked to see if there were any Add-ins loaded (even though I knew there were not) and there are none listed.

There has to be a better answer to this now that I know it is not isolated to users in my office only.

I have recently experienced similar issues in Access 2003.  I had several reports which could be either viewed or printed.  When the view option was taken the report was opened in Print Preview mode, the reports were automatically maximized and the user could simply click the red cross to dismiss it and return to a navigation screen when they had finished viewing it.  What actually happened in some cases was that some of the reports took over the screen and the only red cross button was the one controlling Access itself.  Clicking on this closed Access and that is not what I wanted.  The problem appeared to be related to the fact that my system removed all menu items so the only way to interact with the application was through my own navigation systems.  I temporarily reinstated the standard menu bar and the problem ceased to be so I made a blank menu bar, removed the help box from it and made sure the system to remove all menus did not remove this blank menu bar.  The result was enough to block these reports from taking over the system.  I now get the main red cross button at the top (which would close Access itself), an empty grey band (the blank menu) and a small black cross button which closes the report and returns to the navigator screen cleanly.  It's not a true fix as such but it could be enough to get someone out of a hole.
