Accepting Mail for a Second Domain Name
Hello - I am running an Exchange 2003 box, with a domain (reallylongnamehere.org) and the company wants to shorten the name to the acronym (rlnh.org). I have added the MX records to the new domain name to point to the server. And I've added the new domain to the default recipient policy. Internal Mail works fine, for both names. However Internet mail is not coming in. The bounce back message from google is: The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. [mail.domainname.org. (10): Destination address required] I've searched a few places and it only mentions updating the recipient policy, which I have done to no avail. Any suggestions Thanks

Does your Exchange server receive email directly from the internet or is their another SMTP gateway\filtering service in front that you need to configure that may be doing recipient validation etc?James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Hi, How much time is over to publish your MX records, Its take approx 24 hours to update over internet. also check SMTP address again of mailbox to whom you are sening email from internet, try to add smtp address in one mailbox manually and then try to send email from internet after some time and then test it. Please update status. !!!! Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

The MX records was put into place on Wednesday of last week. I've added the smtp address in a mailbox manually on Friday and that was to no avail either.

Hi, I would try to send an email from a different domain too. Also, please test the mx record for the new domain with tools ran from the external network. You can use the https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com to test the inbound email flow. During the test, the tool attempt to resolve the mx record for your domain, so check the result and let us know. You can also use http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ I would like to check the mail header and the NDR but it seems the error category is 5.x.x error, so irreversible. Normally they occur in case of wrong address, which is not the case, or due to restrictions on the receiver. It might be a restriction on connection or recipient filtering. If you do not want go through logs etc., you can switch them off for a bit, just a time to carry out a test from gmail and see what happens. Perhaps you can add more details on your environment, we might have suggestions, for instance do you have an edge ? How are your inbound connector configured ? Hi, Please restart the exchange server to apply the changes. If the issue persists, please enable the SMTP log and try to reproduce the problem. Then post the SMTP log at c:\WINDOWS\system32\logfiles\SMTPSVC1\xxx.log here for further research. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. Thanks Gen Lin-MSFT

Hi Everyone, Thanks for your responses.. After restarting the server, and rechecking the MX records.. We found out the issue with that...Someone attempting to resolve the issue updated the MX records again for some reason and that was causing the issue. Updating the MX records to the proper name, I now get a 550 550 No Domain at this location" error. I am going to search the forms to see if there is something out there to assist. Thanks !
