Accepted Domains and Recipient policy in Mixed 2003/2007 environment
My envronment consist of two Exchange 2003 backend servers and one Exchange 2007 server that replaced my old 2003 front end exchange server. It was my understanding the before I could upgrade my backend servers the front end server needed to be done first and this is what I did the middle of last year. My Exchange environment received email (accepted Domains) under two registered domain names and for simplicity lets use the names of (a.com and b.com) I had set all of this up prior to the Exchange 2007 server being introduced into the environment and all worked well. Certain users needed to have a default SMTP address of either a.com, b.com or both depending on their roles within the company. I am now trying to introduce a 3rd accepted domain into my environment. The domain name is registered and the MX records are set per my ISP to forward the mail to my public IP. Though an easy process in a 2003 environmnet I am somewhat confused with the mixed 2003/2007 environment. I found that I need to also setup a email recipient policy with 2007 which I attempted to do. I setup the users with a Department name and used the Conditions filtering to apply this policy to the users that will need to accept email with the new SMTP address: lets call it (c.com) I have used the preview screen to be assured it filtered with the proper users and all is well here. When trying to complete this process I have come up with the following error "Error: The priority of E-Mail address policy objects cannot be changed to 0" with a failed status. I did look this up but with no results. At this point I am not sure if I am even on the right track as it is somewhat confusing with the mixed environment. I have read several articles that point me in different directions and thought I would ask if someone was familiar with the above process I am trying to achieve. My backend 2003 servers do have the new accepted domain referenced in them as well as my front end Exchange 2007 server. No email will come in for the new domain name that has been setup. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction as I would appreciate it. Thxs. Dave

Run Get-EmailAddressPolicy and Get-AcceptedDomain and see if the domain you added in Exchange 2003 isn't already in Exchange 2007. I don't have a mixed environment to test this, but I believe that creating it in Exchange 2003 should be reflected in Exchange 2007. Thxs Ed. I did this on my Exchange 2007 system. Get-emailaddresspolicy showed me my Default policy with a priority of lowest and no filters. The second policy was also listed from my 2003 systems with a priority of 0 and no filters. Get-accepteddomain showed me all 3 of my accepted domain names. One was listed as 'True' for the default and the other two were listed as False. I am thinking this all looks correct? Your thoughts on setting up the email address policy.....would this be the reason I am getting the "recipient not found" on my NDR's? Thxs Dave

Setting a recipient policy doesn't necessarily create any addresses.
