A tab had disapeared from a users AD properties
recently, i noticed one of my exchange 2003 users id disapeared from our GAL. so i checked the users AD account and noticed the Email address tab is gone from here account, but all of the other tabs are present that relates to exchange.. any idea why this would happen?... i am moving her mailbox to another mail server to see if the missing tab will repopulate.. thanks rob davis

Hi, In Active Directory Users & Computers, r-click the user who does not have Exchange attributes showing in Properties. Click Exchange Tasks and follow the wizard to create the mailbox. Look in the Properties, which will now have the Exchange tabs. The correct address should be automatically generated. If it's not, click the box to automatically generate addresses based on recipient policy, at the bottom of the E-mail Addresses tab. I hope this will help you. Regards. i did right click to pull up exchange tasks, but, like i said in previous post, all of the other exchange tabs are present just the one is missing. so right clicking the user id does not give me the option to add exchange , only to remove exchange attributes... for some reason though, the user can still access her email account, also able to send and receive mail too with out a problem.. The only problems i see is that her email address no longer is in the GAL, and when i go to setup her profile on my computer, as i expect, her account can not be resolved. to get around this problem, i just put her ldap id (full mailbox directory name), which then finds it. so, i assume it has to do with ldap, and her account. cause it is not happening with any other users.. what would you recommend? rob

I did a ldap query on the AD account in question and compared her query to one that works and found some differnces.... the troubled account the following are missing: showInAddressBook (4): CN=dept A,CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=our domain,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=our domain,DC=com; CN=Default Global Address List,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=our domain,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=our domain,DC=com; CN=our domain Address Book,CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=our domain,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=our domain,DC=com; CN=All Users,CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=our domain,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=our domain,DC=com; I used the ldp utility to find this, how do i add this back into AD?,,,,, and is there a chance i can screw up AD altogether by adding the above to the troubled account? Or should i just purge the troubled account and start over by re-creating it?... thanks

Ok, i found the Attribute Editor Tab on the user account in question the Domain controller and was able to add the missing text. but... once the text was pasted, i click save, then go to the GAL and see her account in there... for about 3 minutes, then her account disapears from the GAL (its not saving to AD) ... what's up with that? thanks

problem solved. an alias is required in the exchange general tab to view email address tab and to display in GAL. per our default policy is setup in our environment.
