Hi, First of all, please let me explain the inside of retrieving data problem. When Outlook requests data from Exchange server, Outlook calls a function that wraps the remote procedure call to the Exchange computer. This wrapper is the CancelableRPC wrapper. If the remote procedure call for data takes more than five seconds to return the data, the wrapper produces the retrieving data message. The dialog box that contains the message remains on the screen until the remote procedure call is answered. Therefore, the causes of issue can be concluded into three sections: 1. Client side issue 2. Network latency 3. Server performance issue I have provided some general suggestions regarding the issue. If the suggestion is not helpful to improve the performance issue, I suggest you contact Microsoft Support engineer directly as we need to gather some detailed data to identify the root cause of the issue. Suggestion 1: Disable the Desktop Search Engine on the Outlook client: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=905184 Suggestion 2: Enable Cache Mode on the Outlook client Suggestion 3: Start Outlook /safe to disable third-party add-ins of the Outlook to help troubleshooting the issue Suggestion 4: Run Netmon on client and server simultaneously to check whether Network issue exists when the retrieving data message is received. Suggestion 5: Refer to following articles to troubleshoot server performance issue by using Performance Monitor: Note: You should be able to know which server encountered the performance issue according to the message: Outlook is retrieving data from the Microsoft Exchange Server server_name.
