550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound
I've upgraded our Exchange server from 2007 to 2010. The Exchange 2007 is no longer running and when I try to email an email-enabled public folder it gives me the RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound error and it looks like it is trying to look up an OU from our Exchange 2003 server which is long gone. I disabled email for this Public Folder and created a new Public Folder and gave it the email address I want to use with this public folder and I keep getting a NDR. Is there something I can change with ADSIEDIT that will fix this? If I create a new Public Folder with a name I've never used before, the email-enabled folder works just fine.

YOu may have a cached auto-fill entry in Outlook. Does it work if you send from OWA? If you try to send to this folder, does Outlook try to auto-fill the TO:.? If so, delete the entry and pick it explicitly from the GAL if its visible, or send to the SMTP address. You could also test online versus cache mode in Outlook. If it works in online mode, but fails in cache, regenerate the OAB on the server and download it again on the client. If it still fails, delete the *.oab files on the client and redownload the Offline Address Book and test.

When I use OWA to send an email to the Public Folder it works, but from Outlook it doesn't. Is there something I need to clear out of Outlook for it to work correctly?

Yes, follow the other steps I listed above. If Outlook is auto-filling the TO: when you begin to type the address of that folder- when it does that, highlight the autofill entry when it pops up and hit the delete key to remove it from the autofill cache.

I'm using Outlook 2010. When I type the name Outlook autofills the name. I hightlight that and delete it and enter the SMTP address. I tried sending the email in online mode and cache mode and initially they both failed. I then deleted the folder in C:\Users\my directory\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books and then online mode worked. When I switched Outlook back to cache mode it was giving me the NDR again. I went under the Send/Receive tab in Outlook and clicked on Download Address Book... to redownload the OAB but that didn't make any difference. Are the OAB files located in another place that I need to delete?

On your Exchange server, make sure that the configuration for the OAB is correct including the server name that generates the offline address book. Then, regenerate the OAB at the server and re-download it to Outlook. See if that corrects this issue. Jim McBee - Blog - http://mostlyexchange.blogspot.com

The Default Offline Address Book is created by the only Exchange 2010 server we have. I highlight the Default Offline Address Book and click the Update link. I have Outlook re-download the address book but I'm still getting the same error when using Outlook in cache mode.

Was the OAB generation on the server sucessful? You may need to increase diags on the OALGenerator object. Then run Update again for the OAL and check the event logs to ensure it was successful and didnt skip any entries. If it is, redownload the OAB at the client- and if necessary delete those *.oab files again. If it still fails, close Outlook and delete the .ost file, reopen and resync the mailbox.
