530 authentication required when sending out bulk email.
Hi. Just a novice on the exchange server but it's just me so sorry to not know everything. We run exchange server 2003 standard with 2003 office. We run out email on exchange. One of our employees sends out our bulk email. 2 weeks ago this worked fine. Now when he sends it we get the error below. It appears to be only his profile but I am not sure where to look or what setting to do. I read something about checking the limit of messages per minute but can't find that either. There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator <our server #5.5.0 smtp;530 Authentication required.>

Hi, This only occurs if you send a message to an external SMTP server that then performs Sender ID Checking before relaying the message to an Exchange server, Please go thru below link to fix this issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915863/en-us How to troubleshoot mail relay issues in Exchange Server 2003 and in Exchange 2000 Server: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895853Anil

How is he sending the mail out? Sounds like he is attempting to relay off a SMTP server and he needs to authentcate to it. BTW, if you allow this, you risk getting your org placed on Block Lists.

Hi This issue is in our corporate office. On a local machine he does his email blast. It goes from his desk to our exchange server which is on site. Then thru our spam filter which is postini. Then out to the client. Every single email comes back with that error. I checked our exchange server ip for black listing but it was clean. I checked with postini but they say the error isnt theirs. Not sure if we relay sorry. As i said it seems to be just his profile. He had a manager do the email blast on friday and it went but it wasn't an identical email list. Very close but not 100%. Not sure if that makes a difference. Jason

Jason, No need to check your Exchange sevrer IP whether it is black listed. Its a postini outbound gateway IP which could be black listed. In my past experience , It was fixed by postini when same issue ocured of relaying. I hope you don't have any issue of relaying into internal recepients. Please contact google/Postini to get resolve this.Anil

Hi, How does this account connect Exchange server? POP3 or MAPI profile? Did this issue only occur when sending the external email? Thanks Allen

Hi Postini says its not them. I have disabled postini under default smtp virtual server properties under delivery tab then adv tab and removed the smart host. Stopped and restarted the smpt services. Still no luck. I have checked with postini if the IP was blacklisted. They say no. I have checked to see if our exchange server or domain control server ips were blacklisted they appear to be ok. I have checked with AT&T who we have a private network with to see if we have a message limit. They say no. I am at a lose.

we connect though exchange. We don't use pop at all. Pop is enabled but no one is set up with that. Not sure weather we use MAPI the settings for the smtp virtual server are under smtp. There are 5 settings under the protocals. HTTP IMAP4 NNTP POP3 AND SMTP.

Hi, Please just press Ctrl+right click the Outlook icon in System Tray, select the Connection Status, confirm TCP/IP connection is displayed. Whether the problematic sender could send the email to other external users? Thanks Allen
