2 VSS Writers causing Exchange 2007 using backup exec 2010 to fail when backing up to tape
We have exchange server 2007 SP3 RU1 running on Windows 2008R2 64 Bit edition. We also have LCR enabled as well. We are currently using Backup Exec 2010 R2 Version 13 Rev. 4164 with the latest hotfixes installed. We are running 2 seperate
backup jobs daily. 1 to disk using a ESATA port hooked to a SATA external HDD and 1 to our HP LTO4 tape drive. When we backup to our external HDD it works perfectly and is successful. When we try to back to our external tape drive we start
to have problems. We have opened a call with Symantec and we ran through a few steps but nothing has worked. They have explained that we have 2 VSS writers running, with one in the failed state. We tried rebooting the server yesterday but
it did not help. They gave us a few options including reinstalling SP3 for Exchange or opening a call with Microsoft. I have searched forums and i see plenty of people having similar issues but with no real fix. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi HandArendall,
"When we try to back to our external tape drive we start to have problems"
Could you please post the error messages or related error events in the Event Viewer?
You can also follow the steps in the below link to troubleshoot VSS backup first.
