2008 Server and Office 2010

Hi there

Trying to install office 2010 on server 2008 and get the office setup popup  "please wait while setup is preparing the necessary files" thereafter the pop up disappears and nothing happens.

Checked the event logs and there is nothing there except  The Windows Modules Installer service entered the running state. The Windows Modules Installer service entered the stopped state. but I believe this is for windows update and not with office maybe someone can confirm?

Under task manager you do see the setup.exe start up then disappear.

Cant see any logs under c:\temp.

The installation works on another machine

any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this more? or what to try next please?

thanks

....Cant see any logs under c:\temp.

Check %TEMP%, since the Office setup logfiles will be created within the particular Temp folder of the user account performing the installation.

Does this server have the Remote Desktop Services role/feature installed?
If so, only Volume License editions of Office can be installed.
If RDS is present, and if the correct edition of Office is attempted, you may need to perform the installation in AllUsers/Admin mode;

Not exactly this before, no, but...

It looks like you are using a customization file (an MSPfile or a config.xml), because "suppress modal" has been set.

And so, setup didn't display the fatal error message (because it was told to run totally silently)

And, the actual error, is that setup is being instructed (presumably by the customization you have built) to install Office into a non-existent folder location. (maybe an invalid drive or sub-folder structure?)

Check your customization. It seems to me that it's defective.

What is the actual command-line you are executing?

setup.exe

or

setup.exe /configfile blablah ??

If you are using just setup.exe, then my guess is that there's a defective customization file plonked into the \Updates folder of your install source, and that's doing bad stuff for your sce
