2003 to 2010 with new domain
Hi Everybody! Trying to move to Exchange 2010 with a new (external) domain. Objective: Gradually move all users form domain1.com to domain2.com on the new Exchange 2010 server. Keeping domain1.com as secondary domain. Personal Experience: Exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration, and 2003 management for several years. Pre-deployment environment: Two 2003 Servers: domain controller and 2003 Exchange. Exchange 2003 connects to POP mailboxes located on ISP mail server using 'eXchange POP3' (third party) application. Steps taken: Added 2008 (Standard, SP2) domain controller, and moved DHCP, DNS and WINS to it. Installed Exchange 2010 on another 2008 (Enterprise, SP2) Server. Registered domain2.com with domain registrar. Observable Results: New 2008 domain controller seems to be operating properly did not use any tools to verify, but it coexisted with the old 2003 controller for several months with no issues. Exchange 2010 shows all current (2003) mailboxes under Recipient Configuration -> Mailboxes. New test mailboxes added to the 2010 showing up on the 2003. Cannot connect to 2010 using Outlook 2003. I don't think OWA and Exchange Control Panel are working right. OWA displays a text-based login form, but rejects any logins. And Exchange Control Panel is not accessible at all. Questions: I never hosted my own mail. What do I do form here? How to finalize the 2010 setup, "assign" domain2.com to it, and then transition users? Thank you!

If OWA and ECP don't work properly (even for mailboxes deployed on Ex2010) it means you misconfigured the CAS role on new server. You should investigate installation logs and use ExBPA to verifu configuration (and of course application event log). CAS is most important for Exchange 2010 because some functionality are shared by Web Services on this Role, and even Outlook 2003 connect to mailboxes through CAS server.Regards, Konrad Sagala, MCT, MCSE+M, MCITP: Exchange 2007/2010

Any update on the issue? It's a cross forest migration, I would use BinaryTree(personally) or Quest migration tool.Gulab Prasad, MCITP: Exchange Server 2010 | MCITP: Exchange Server 2007 MCITP: Lync Server 2010 | MCITP: Windows Server 2008 My Blog | Z-Hire Employee Provisioning App
