2003 IIS server and XP pro IIS server in same domain
hopefully I can explain this. I am new setting up FTP. I have an exchange 2003 server (Of course with IIS running on it) I have an XP pro box setup with a 3rd party software called bullet proof. My firewall has port 21 redirected to this XP Pro box. If using client software called "Core FTP lite" I can get into the ftp site just fine. Upload and download files just fine. I have a customer who is trying to get in using IE8 and gets an invalid certificate error because, My certificate is for my exchange server not my FTP server. SO, I am looking at creating a self certificate for the ftp site. First question: can I install a certificate without installing IIS on the XP pro box or can I install the self certificate on the IIS manager on the exchange server which already has a certificate from a CA? or can I use the certificate on the exchange server for the ftp server even if different machines? second question: If I install IIS from the Xp pro cd onto the XP pro box will this IIS server interfere with the IIS server on the Exchange box as long as I don't check the options for SMTP and just use the basic options for FTP server? any other input is very welcome. EXCEPT, why doesn't the customer use an FTP client instead of IE 8. This I don't know and have asked the client and just got the response "our IT person needs to check the software out." So please don't ask this/ Thank you. MNJoe
