03I in MessageInfo field of tracking log
A user is trying to send email but it is never delivered. I checked the Message Tracking log and found the message but the only entry is RECEIVE event, there is no SEND. I checked the mail queues but the message is not in any of them. The user never receives an NDR. The MessageInfo field in the Message Tracking log has a value of 03I instead of a date\time. I have searched but can not find any reference to what this 03I means. If the server received the message but never sent it, and it is not in any of the queues, where did it go. i tried turning up the SMTPReceive and SMTPSend logging on the HUB server but nothing showed up in the protocol logs. Any assistance will be appreciated.TBrennan

I know why the rule is not working; we do not allow automatic forwarding to external addresses. However, my question about what the various codes in the MessageInfo field of the tracking log still stands and where did the message go? Was it simply dropped; if so, shouldn't that be logged somewhere?TBrennan

That 03I just means "Mapi submit without rpc encryption". Messages that seemingly disappear are often stuck in the categorizer queue or have been swallowed by anti-virus or anti-spam software. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Thanks. Do you know how I can check the categorizer queue in Exchange 2007? It doesn't show up in the Queue Viewer.TBrennan

It's the "submission" queue. The name I used was from earlier releases. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996349(EXCHG.80).aspx --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Thanks, the submission queue is empty so apparently Exchange just drops the message without logging it anywhere. I'm not sure I like that feature. it would be nice if it logged dropped messages.TBrennan
