/removeorg Switch Error in Exchange Server 2003
I've uninstalled Exchange Server 2003 and am now trying to use the /removeorg switch to remove Exchange information from AD however when I try this I get an error message stating that: The component "Microsoft Exchange Forest preparation" cannot be assigned the action "RemoveOrg" because: To install the first Exchange server in a domain, or to run setup in "/ForestPrep" mode, you must be an Exchange Full Administrator at the organization level. You must use an account that has been granted the Full Exchange Administrator role on the Exchange Organization using the Exchange Administration Delegation Wizard There were no errors during the uninstall or (to the best of my recollection) during the original install and my account was a Full Administrator. Has anyone had this issue before and if so, how did you resolve it? Thanks.

Do you have other Exchange servers in the environment? The /removeorg options should not be used unless you intend to remove Exchange completely from your organization. You will need to manually remove the Exchange 2003 servers object from AD configuration using ADSIEdit. Please refer to the following link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ta/exchangesvrmigration/thread/6ff6f835-735d-4c95-9d3f-ecee7bc19b1a The below KB explains the REMOVEORG switch. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830185MCITP: Enterprise / Server Administrator | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | MCP | MCDST

Hi Tom, Yes we do, we've migrated to a cloud service and so no longer require Exchange internally. Thanks.

Hi NJC1 Please verify the account that you log on, if it is domain.local\username, it will cause that error happen. You can change it to domain\username and it should be ok CheersZi Feng TechNet Community Support

Hi Zi, Thanks but I'm not sure what you mean exactly, I'm logging in on over Remote Desktop and am selecting the NetBIOS domain name from the drop-down list on the login screen. Thanks.

Ah, I see. Yes, it is an administrator account (it was the account used to originally install Exchange).

The account is a member of Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins and Schema Admins. It was also an Exchange Full Administrator.
